This defiant trade name expresses poise as a professional farm manager and real estate broker associate at Farmers National Company.
Covering territories spanning from Central and South-Central Iowa surrounding the Des Moines area, The Field Boss™ (TFB) is directly responsible for the management of over 100 tracts of land totaling about 18,000 acres.
Each year TFB will negotiate and write around 85 annual farm leases or agreements with over 60 farmers, representing more than 70 landowner clients as third party fiduciary agent.
Custom Farming and Cash Rent management are the greater part of assignments. TFB also implements other lease types including flexible cash rent, bushel, net share, custom blend and supplemental crop share.
TFB has worked diligently to grasp the ever-increasing interest in large scale organic farming. TFB is also well versed with hay, pasture and commits to keep over 60 Conservation Reserve (CRP) contracts in compliance.
TFB is licensed in Crop Insurance to offer sale of multiple plans of coverage.

At any given time, The Field Boss oversees the progress of about 20 maintenance or improvement projects including land conservation, drainage, building upkeep or demolition along with overall farm appearance.

Background
Grew Up on a Farm
Ben developed interest in agriculture while being raised on his family's farm in northwest Madison County Iowa, west of Des Moines, where he grew up growing corn, soybeans, forages, cattle and helped with their seed dealership.
Established in 1872
Six generations of Ben's family have been stewards of their land legacy.
Located 25 miles from Des Moines metro, the surrounding area is primarily agricultural but has some of the largest open-pit lime quarries in the state. Hogback Covered Bridge offers a popular scenic and historic attraction in the immediate area for tourists and visitors.
Farm Kid
Operated and maintained many pieces of agricultural equipment. Assisted in timely farm business livestock and grain operations.
Cattle Exhibition
Selected & maintained cattle for cow/calf enterprise. Exhibiting as many as 9 animals each year: breeding heifers, steers, cow/calf pairs and pen of 3 steers.
Iowa State University
Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Business. This major provided a blend of training in business, economics and agricultural sciences while preparing for a professional career.
Grain and Cattle Farms
Reported financial statements on accrual accounting basis. Appraised farm employees to provide analytical personnel reports. Researched farm business practices for improved profitability, efficiency, effectiveness.
Agricultural Cooperative
Largest farmer-owned agriculture cooperative in Iowa. Introduced to all businesses: grain, feed, agronomy, seed.
Beef Cattle Seedstock
Improve The Land, Improve The Breed. Introduced to carcass quality characteristics as value added product. Prepared yearling heifer calves for sale. Assisted in various seasonal beef cattle herd management and health functions.
